A mother’s dream. A table for everyone.

Sunny came to the United States from South Korea as a single mother with two young children and the hope of building a better future for her family. Starting over in a new country was not easy. For years, she worked in restaurants and cleaned homes while raising children and doing everything she could to keep family moving forward.

Through all of those years, she carried a dream of her own: one day, she wanted to open a restaurant.

After more than a decade of hard work, that dream became a reality.

In 2017, Sunny opened Daol Tofu in Oakland with a simple purpose: to share the comforting Korean food she grew up with and create a place where people could gather around the table.

The name Daol (다올) means “all the blessings will come.” Sunny chose the name because she believed that if you work hard, remain hopeful, and faithfully follow your dreams, good things will eventually find their way to you.

That spirit continues to guide Sunny today.
